The first medical marijuana school opens. Want to get into the pot business legally? The Cannabis Career Institute, otherwise known as CCI announced the opening of the first pot school in Nevada. Located in Henderson, dozens of students recently enrolled and subsequently learned the ups and downs of the marijuana business. They also acquired skills in growing pot legally and making cannabis brownies and cookies. Students of the new school may have to put on hold their hopes of starting a literal budding business. It may take a year before medical marijuana dispensaries could open in the state, even though the senate recently approved a bill for them. Earlier this year, a company in Denver opted to place cannabis flower oil in their body sprays, lip balms and skin creams. The oil contains THC, which is the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis. A company official states "Everything is for the skin. It's not meant to be inebriating in any way." The marijuana skin care products are only available to medical marijuana patients, as retail stores specializing in cannabis items won't be permitted to open until 2014.

2015 Nevada Business Hall of Fame Honoree: Kevin T. Orrock It’s rare to find someone who was born in Nevada but Kevin T. Orrock is one of those unique true blue Nevadans. He was born in the small mining town of Pioche, 180 miles north of Las Vegas, and lived in the Cupertino area of Northern California until moving with his family to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania during junior high school. Kevin attended Wittenburg University in Springfield, Ohio and relocated to Las Vegas shortly after graduating in 1973. Later, he obtained an MBA from UNLV. In 1974, he began his career with the company that would eventually become The Howard Hughes Corporation. That predecessor, the Summa Corporation, hired Kevin to work in the accounting department at the famed Desert Inn Hotel. Since then, he has held various positions within the company overseeing financial operations and land development activities. Kevin’s influence as president of Summerlin and vice president of Master Planned Communities for the Howard Hughes Corporation touches all aspects of Summerlin – from advanced planning and design to the sales and marketing efforts of the community. Summerlin’s master plan, which is organized on a village concept, distinguishes the community by integrating a diverse range of residential neighborhoods, recreational amenities, office parks, major retail centers, cultural and civic centers, worship sites, and private and public schools that are linked to a system of parks and trails. The 22,500-acre project runs along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley and has roughly 100,000 people living in 40,000 homes. However, plans suggest that eventually there will be more than 200,000 residents in 80,000 homes. The project’s completion date is listed as 2039. Famed aviator Howard Hughes had acquired the massive property now known as Summerlin in a land swap with the federal government in 1952. He initially wanted to build research and development facilities for his Southern California aircraft company but ended up doing nothing with the land. After he died in 1976, the company overseeing his holdings drew up plans for Summerlin and the first residents moved there in 1991. Recently, under Kevin’s direction, Summerlin debuted the latest shopping endeavor in Southern NevadaDowntown Summerlin. If the community’s previous achievements are any indication, this integrated outdoor shopping area will more than deliver the new business opportunities that the west side of the Las Vegas Valley has deserved and craved for years. Kevin is married to Diana V. Orrock and they have three grown children, Chad, Kyle, and Cassie. Over the years, Kevin has been an actively involved member of the Southern Nevada community. He’s served on the boards of Sunrise Children’s Foundation, Nevada Taxpayers Association, and the Executive Board of the Nevada Development Authority, for which he served on the legislative committee. He’s also been involved with the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce’s executive board and served as treasurer of the Las Vegas Chamber Foundation. Kevin has also been a member of the advisory board of directors for U.S. Bank’s Las Vegas, Nev., operation, the UNLV’s Lee Business College, and Habitat for Humanity.

On Sept. 17, 2015, a group of five Nevada families partnered with the Institute for Justice (IJ) to defend Nevada’s Education Savings Account (ESA) program against two lawsuits challenging its constitutionality. By formally intervening into the lawsuits, the families will ensure that the 450,000 students eligible for the program are represented as the lawsuits progress through the courts. The two lawsuits were filed by the American Civil Liberties Union’s (ACLU) Nevada branch and Educate Nevada Now (ENN). “Nevada’s school choice program is one of the largest, most innovative programs in the country, which is precisely why it has come under so much fire.” said IJ senior attorney Tim Keller. “It empowers parents and fosters healthy competition in the state’s education system.” Under the new law, which doesn’t go into effect until 2016, families with children in public schools can opt out of the public school system and receive a flexible scholarship to use on a wide variety of educational services—including private school tuition, tutoring, or distance learning, among other other options. They can even take classes a la carte from public schools or pay for courses at community colleges. The program puts parents in the driver's seat of their children’s education, and offers a multitude of choices to find the best fit for their kids. The ACLU’s lawsuit argues that the newly-minted program furthers a religious or sectarian purpose because it allows parents to choose religious educational options for their children. But allowing parents to make the decision about where to educate their own children severs any link between church and state. The ENN lawsuit does not make any claims regarding religion. It argues that the public school system is the exclusive means of paying for education in Nevada, but there is no reason why families should not have more say over how their own tax dollars are spent, especially when it comes to something as crucial as their children’s education. For families, ESAs will help their children escape Nevada’s overcrowded and inadequate public school system. http://ij.org/nevada-school-choice

Visit our website now: http://www.billstill.com - considered by informed insiders’ as THE ultimate resource for fixing the National Debt problem and surviving Economic or Financial Collapse/Crash and attaining the unvarnished truth about Washington and today’s United States Political Climate. Good morning, I’m still reporting on Trump Would-Be Attacker A Clinton Supporter and U. of Chicago Grad Trump Would-Be Attacker A Clinton Supporter and U. of Chicago Grad Secret Service agents quickly covered Donald Trump and rushed him off stage when 33-year-old Austyn Crites rushed to the front of the crowd with what some Trump supporters thought may have been a gun. Agents shouted, “Go, go, go” and Trump’s body men shielded the candidate as they ran him off stage. Crites was apparently holding a rolled-up signRepublicans Against Trump”. As he pushed his way to the very front of the crowd he reached into his waistband and the crowd quickly started yelling, “gun, gun, gun”. Private security planted in that front row were the first to tackle Crites, quickly followed by Secret Service agents. Crites was whisked out of the arena in handcuffs and a bulletproof vest and placed in a bathroom near the VIP entrance under heavy guard until released. Crites quickly deleted his Facebook page and his LinkedIn page, but several Twitter followers posted the images that were on these pages before they were deleted. Crites attended the University of Nevada, Reno from 2002-2005. He then received his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2009. He founded the Aerospace inflatable design and manufacturing company Panberri in March 2014. I’m still reporting from Washington. Good day. Bill Still is a former newspaper editor and publisher.
